A video circulating on social media has caught the attention of netizens as it shows Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif allegedly “taking” an umbrella from a protocol officer, leaving her soaked in the rain.
Sharif, who is currently in Paris to participate in a global financing summit, was captured on a 45-second video attempting to grab the umbrella held by the officer.
Dressed in a grey suit, Sharif can be seen successfully acquiring the umbrella and walking alone, while the officer follows behind in the pouring rain. The footage continues until the Prime Minister reaches the entrance of the venue.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions among netizens, with some suggesting that alternative arrangements could have been made, such as using another female officer’s umbrella.
Others referenced a previous incident in Iran where someone else held an umbrella for Sharif, resulting in a social media uproar.
While some Twitter users drew comparisons to Mr. Bean while watching the video, others humorously commented that Sharif had “stolen” the umbrella from the officer.
The Summit for a New Global Financing Pact commenced in Paris on Thursday, gathering over 300 participants from various sectors.
Climate change-related financing issues are expected to be discussed in depth through six round table sessions, covering topics such as restructuring the international financial architecture, fostering partnerships, and creating an enabling environment for the private sector.
Prior to the summit, Sharif engaged in meetings with several world leaders, as well as the heads of the United Nations and International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he emphasized the challenges faced by developing nations, particularly due to climate change.
During his address at the event, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a fair and equitable distribution of financial resources worldwide, aiming to alleviate the hardships experienced by developing nations and promote global peace. (Edited)
