The international flight service between Agartala and Chittagong is soon set to become a reality as Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha instructed the Director General of Police to take steps for the deployment of immigration officers at the airport as requested by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Chief Minister presided over a high-level meeting attended by Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and others in Agartala on Thursday. The meeting was convened to address crucial matters concerning the launch of the international flight service on the proposed route.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that essential steps had been taken to designate the Maharaja Bir Bikram airport in Agartala as an international airport.
Responding to a request from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Chief Minister instructed Director General of Police Amitabha Ranjan to facilitate the deployment of 17 immigration officers at the airport.
This move is crucial for ensuring smooth immigration processes for passengers traveling between the two nations.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister urged both the Transport and Police departments to make all necessary arrangements in accordance with the directives issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Home Affairs. These measures aim to streamline operations and enhance security measures for the upcoming international flight service.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, who was present at the meeting, confirmed that the Transport Department had already taken proactive measures to establish the proposed international flight service. A proposal for granting international status to the Agartala airport had already been forwarded to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, with expectations of swift approval to enable the commencement of operations.
Additionally, plans for establishing an immigration check post at the Maharaja Bir Bikram airport are currently under consideration by the Ministry of Home Affairs. This step will further facilitate seamless travel for passengers between the two neighbouring regions.
The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Director General of Police of Tripura, Amitabh Ranjan, Transport Department Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Secretary Saradindu Chowdhury, and Transport Commissioner Subrata Chowdhury. Their presence highlighted the significance of the international flight service, with all stakeholders working collaboratively to ensure its successful implementation.
The commencement of the international flight service between Agartala and Chittagong is expected to bring immense benefits to regions, strengthening bilateral ties and fostering economic growth and cultural exchanges.
