A massive landslide in Uttarakhand’s Gauri Kund town, a crucial stopover for pilgrims en route to Kedarnath, has resulted in the disappearance of 19 individuals, with rescue teams recovering three lifeless bodies so far.

The calamity unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday night, as a powerful landslide wreaked havoc upon the town, causing substantial damage to businesses in its wake. Witnesses recount that the shops, bustling with activity, were tragically caught in the path of the devastating slide.

Tragically, the missing individuals, a majority of whom are believed to be of Nepalese origin, are yet to be located. As authorities and the State Disaster Response Force remain vigilant, a solemn effort to identify the deceased is underway.

Amidst the ongoing rescue and relief operations, fears persist that the powerful current of the Mandakini river might have carried away those who remain unaccounted for. This troubling prospect has cast a shadow over the rescue efforts, as hopes wane for a swift and safe recovery.

In light of the disaster’s impact on key pilgrimage routes, the revered Kedarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended. As the town of Gauri Kund grapples with this tragedy, the entire region stands united in its prayers and efforts to bring solace to those affected by this heart-wrenching catastrophe. (Edited)
