The Global Kashmiri Diaspora (GKPD) has expressed its approval of the government’s recent decision to reopen cases related to the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus.
For the past 34 years, one of the primary demands of GKPD has been to secure justice for the martyrs who lost their lives due to their allegiance to the Constitution of India and their religious beliefs.
After years of persistent efforts to engage with the judiciary, the announcement to direct the State Investigation Agency (SIA) to thoroughly investigate terrorism-related cases involving Kashmiri Pandits and collaborate with central agencies has been perceived as a significant step forward by GKPD.
According to GKPD, this development marks the initiation of a process that holds the potential to bring much-needed relief to the long-suffering community. The organization has pledged to closely monitor the progress made by SIA in swiftly prosecuting the individuals responsible for these acts of terrorism, as well as any domestic or foreign mastermind conspirators.
“Thirty-four years ago, our community faced a forced displacement from our ancestral homeland in the wake of a violent and terror-inflicted pogrom. Prominent community figures like Justice Neelkanth Ganjoo, Pandit Tika Lal Taploo, Pandit Sarwanand Kaul Premi, Pandit Lassa Kaul, and Justice P.N. Bhat, among others, were brutally murdered,” GKPD recounted.
“In total, more than 1,400 members of our community were martyred, and hundreds of thousands were suddenly rendered homeless. Shockingly, to this day, no one has been brought to trial or held accountable for these heinous murders. In a vast majority of cases, no First Information Report (FIR) was even registered,” GKPD lamented. (Edited)
