In a swift action by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, a government employee in Assam’s Rangia neighborhood was apprehended after allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant.
This incident marks the second corruption case involving a government official within a span of 24 hours.
The accused government official, identified as Jyotirmoy Baruah, reportedly solicited a bribe from the complainant in return for facilitating her relative’s employment as an Anganwadi worker.
Baruah held the position of a junior assistant at the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project in the Tamulpur district-based Nagrijuli area.
The operation to apprehend Baruah was meticulously executed by the anti-corruption team, culminating in his capture near the Axis Bank branch in Rangia.
Authorities have registered a case against Baruah under the relevant sections of the law, and a comprehensive investigation into the matter is presently underway.
This development comes on the heels of another high-profile arrest in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. Hemandra Bora, a state government official stationed in the Tinikonia area, was taken into custody on charges of bribery.
According to police reports, Bora allegedly demanded a sum of Rs. 1 lakh in exchange for facilitating land-related official work. Notably, Bora had already received 50 percent of the bribe in advance.
An officer involved in the operation stated, “When he attempted to collect the remaining sum, Bora was apprehended red-handed by law enforcement authorities.”
These arrests underscore the commitment of Assam’s authorities to combat corruption within the government ranks and uphold transparency and accountability. (Edited)
