In an effort to enhance the employability and skills of Tripura’s youth, a new project called “Heartland Tripura” was officially launched in Agartala on Thursday.

This project is a collaborative initiative between Deloitte India, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Agartala, and is supported by the Government of India and the State Government of Tripura.

Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurated the ceremony and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Deloitte India and NIELIT – Agartala. Total seven MoUs were signed NIELIT and various organizations today.

In his inaugural speech, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said skilling, up-skilling and re-skilling along with Digital skilling is prerequisite for obtaining a job. He called upon the youth’s of Tripura to grab the opportunity and to be ‘industry-ready and future ready’.

Later in an X post, he wrote, “Tripura’s Youth will become magnet for Investments. Soon Tripura will witness MNCs, Big Indian Cos & Startups setting up their base! Within just few months of announcing future-ready skills with industry backed job opportunities in #Tripura, I was happy to inaugurate Project ‘Heartland Tripura’ today in #Agartala. I thank @DeloitteIndia for having confidence in the youth of Tripura and for partnering with @GoI_MeitY @MSDESkillIndia & Govt of Tripura for this initiative. PM @narendramodiji’s multi-year vision & work over the years has revolutionized physical & Digital Infrastructure in the North East Region. Partnerships like this will create a talent pool in #NER that can tap into the unprecedented opportunities offered by India’s growing economy”.

Deloitte-IndiaNIELIT-TripuraThe MoS pointed out that the Northeast region of India is poised for rapid growth, largely due to improved physical connectivity, with companies like Deloitte, IBM, and Microsoft actively participating in this phase of skilling. NIELIT is set to partner with these companies for digital skilling programs, and in the near future, there are plans to introduce programs for farm processing, agriculture, and food processing as well.

“Heartland Tripura” project will offer a specific set of skill development certification courses through NIELIT – Agartala, along with internship opportunities for select participants. The goal is to create promising job prospects upon successful completion of the certification and internship requirements.

Among others, Union MoS Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, State Minister Santana Chakma, CEO of Deloitte South Asia Romal Shetty and others were present in the programme.

Echoing Chandrasekhar’s appeal to State youths to participate in the ‘Heartland Tripura’ initiative, Pratima Bhoumik urged the college students to submit their resumes to concerned college authorities and individuals who completed degree course to contact NIELIT.

In the initial phase of this project, approximately 350 graduates are anticipated to receive training and employment opportunities, subject to fulfilling specific assessment criteria. By January 2024, this initiative is expected to generate job opportunities for around 50 engineering and non-engineering students, with further job placements for up to 300 students from March to June 2024.

The certification courses offered under “Heartland Tripura” will encompass a wide range of contemporary technical and professional development skills, including areas like cybersecurity, internal audit, analytics, and softer skills like business communication, executive presence, and grooming, among others.

Deloitte will curate a curriculum aimed at industry readiness, facilitate NCVET-based certification, provide access to trainers through its professionals, and guide colleges in the state to organize placement fairs. The project additionally aims to identify target organizations for placements and establish an advocacy network to encourage private firms to hire from select colleges in Tripura.
