In a scathing critique of the BJP-led Central and State governments, Left leader Sudhan Das denounced Governments’ abysmal record in upholding constitutional guarantees of social justice and equality for Dalits.
While taking part in the Raj Bhavan Abhiyan in Agartala on Thursday, Das lamented the state’s failure to protect Dalits from the rising tide of atrocities against them.
The Raj Bhavan Abhiyan was organised by the Tripura Tapashil Jati Samanyan Samiti and Tripura Khet Majdoor Union jointly with seven Left organisations in Agartala today in support of 17-point charter of demands.
Das alleged that the government’s actions have systematically eroded the constitutional rights of Dalits and minorities, dashing their hopes for social and economic parity.
The Left leader also referred to the recent National Dalit Summit in Hyderabad, where over 350 delegates from more than 100 organizations across the country united to formulate a comprehensive charter of demands and an action plan to mobilize mass support for their cause.
In line with the Dalit Summit’s call for a nationwide signature campaign to endorse the charter of demands, Left organizations in Tripura have initiated a drive to collect at least 2 lakh signatures from across the state, Das informed reporters.
With the Lok Sabha elections nearing, the Leftists are desperately trying to regain the lost ground in Tripura by reactiving its different frontal organisations. Once powerful Leftists are facing dire crisis after 2023 Assembly polls where it was relegated to the third position. Left parties’ strength reduced noticeably in terms of number Assembly seats won and percentage of votes, despite seat sharing understanding with Congress.
Today’s Raj Bhavan Abhiyan was organized mainly by the Left frontal organisations of the Scheduled Caste and agri-farm workers.
