Tripura are in a commanding position to register their third win of the season in the Ranji Trophy, as they have set Railways a daunting target of 331 runs to chase in the fourth innings.
At stumps on day two, Railways were yet to begin their second innings at the MBB Stadium in Agartala.
Earlier, Tripura had bowled out Railways for a paltry 105 in their first innings, gaining a 44-run lead.
The hosts then rode on the fifties of Sudip Chatterjee and Ganesh Satish to post 286 for 9 in their second innings, extending their advantage to 330 runs.
Railways, who resumed their first innings at 72 for 7, could only add 33 runs before being bundled out in 38.3 overs. Arindam Ghosh was the lone fighter for the visitors, scoring 62 off 108 balls with eight fours and a six.
He scored 32 of the last 33 runs for his team. Manishankar Murasing was the pick of the bowlers for Tripura, claiming 5 for 28, while Bikram Debnath chipped in with 3 for 16.
Tripura did not have a good start in their second innings, as they lost three wickets for 37 runs. However, Chatterjee and Satish steadied the ship with a 147-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Chatterjee missed his century by five runs, as he fell for 95 off 141 balls with 11 fours. Satish made 62 off 110 balls with eight fours and a six.
After their dismissal, Tripura lost wickets in a heap, as they slipped from 184 for 3 to 241 for 9. Yuvraj and Himanshu Sangwan did the damage for Railways, taking four and three wickets respectively.
Abhijit Sarkar and Rana Dutta then added some valuable runs for the last wicket, as they remained unbeaten on 20 and 28 respectively. Tripura ended the day at 286 for 9 in 70 overs.
Tripura will hope to wrap up the match on day three, while Railways will need a miracle to save the game.
