The Tripura government on Sunday combined a public-service recruitment programme with a women-focused livelihood initiative in Agartala.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha handed over job offer letters to 16 newly recruited Fire and Emergency Services drivers and distributed sewing machines to 180 trained women beneficiaries.

Sixteen newly recruited drivers of the Fire and Emergency Services Department received job offer letters at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala on Sunday.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha handed over the offer letters to the selected candidates during the programme. The event also featured the distribution of sewing machines to women beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Dakshata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP).
The Chief Minister congratulated the newly appointed Fire and Emergency Services personnel. He said government employment brings a major responsibility towards the people.
Dr Saha urged the new recruits to perform their duties with honesty, dedication and perseverance. He also wished them success as they begin a new chapter in their careers.
CM Highlights Role of Fire and Emergency Services
Manik Saha stressed the importance of the Fire and Emergency Services Department in protecting lives and property.
He specifically highlighted the role of drivers in the department. Fire service vehicles need trained and dependable drivers to respond quickly during emergencies, he said.
The Chief Minister said the appointment of 16 drivers would strengthen the department and support its emergency response mechanism.
His remarks came as the state handed over offer letters to the newly recruited drivers at the Agartala programme.
The recruitment initiative also reflects the governments focus on creating employment opportunities through different departments.
180 Women Receive Sewing Machines
The programme also focused on women empowerment and self-employment.
The government distributed sewing machines to 180 women who completed tailoring training under MMDUP. The initiative seeks to help beneficiaries use their skills to generate income and build sustainable livelihoods.
The beneficiaries came from the South and Central zones of Agartala Municipal Corporation. They represent Wards 16, 20, 32, 33, 34, 39 and 40.
The sewing machine distribution forms part of a larger skill development initiative for women across Agartala.
A total of 380 women beneficiaries from all four zones of Agartala Municipal Corporation have completed the training programme. The government had already distributed machines to beneficiaries from Wards 42 and 5.
300-Hour Tailoring Training
The Sewing Machine Tailor Training Programme provides practical skills linked to the local market.
The training covered 300 hours over 50 days. Each trainee received a stipend of Rs 2,000 during the training period. Refreshment support was also provided.
The programme aims to help women move from skill acquisition to income generation. Providing sewing machines after training gives beneficiaries an opportunity to start or expand tailoring-based self-employment.
The initiative supports the state government vision of Atmanirbhar Tripura and the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.
More Skill Programmes for Women
The Directorate of Skill Development is also running several other women-focused training programmes.
These include traditional hand embroidery, pastry bakery and commis, e-rickshaw driving, agarbatti stick making, geriatric caregiver training, beauty therapy and general duty assistant courses.
The programmes seek to match training with individual interests and local employment opportunities.
The government aims to create a larger pool of skilled women who can pursue wage employment or start their own livelihood activities.
Government Jobs Linked to Public Service
The Chief Minister said government employment should not be viewed only as a career opportunity. It also carries a responsibility to serve society.
His message was particularly relevant to the newly recruited Fire and Emergency Services drivers, whose duties form part of the states emergency response system.

Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department, and Tamal Majumdar, Director of Fire and Emergency Services, also attended as Special Guests.
The combined programme highlighted the state governments focus on employment, skill development, women empowerment and self-reliance.
