Senior Congress leader Rajesh Lilothia blamed the BJP government for dragging the country ‘on the verge of destruction’.
While releasing Congress party’s poll manifesto for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections at the State Congress headquarters in Agartala on Tuesday, he asserted caste census and necessary constitutional amendments to raise the the reservation cap for the SC, ST and OBC communities, if the INDIA bloc is voted to power. He also highlighted party's stance on the LGBTQIA+, farmers issues including MSP.
The manifesto, released by All India Congress SC Cell Chairman Rajesh Lilothia alongside TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha, Congress MLA and permanent invitee member of CWC Sudip Roy Barman, AICC secretary Szarita Laitphlang, Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, former TPCC president Pijush Kanti Biswas among others focused on the age-old party’s commitment to ‘Nyay’ (Justice) through its ‘five pillars’.
Urging the people of Tripura to vote in favor of INDIA bloc candidates; Asish Kumar Saha from West Tripura seat and Rajendra Reang in the East seat, the Congress leaders announced the manifesto centered around Justice in five crucial sectors; ‘Yuva Nyay’, ‘Nari Nyay’, ‘Kisan Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’ and ‘Hissedari Nyay’.
Addressing the press conference, Rajesh Lilothia briefly highlighted the eras of both UPA and NDA government alleging that the ‘BJP has taken the country to a verge of destruction in all spheres’.
“Being elected to power, the Congress promises to conduct a caste census and pass a constitutional amendment to raise 50 per cent cap on reservations for SC, ST and OBC”, he said.
Discussing a few other promises enlisted in the manifesto titled ‘Nyay Patra’, Lilothia said, “The Congress also promises to reserve 50 per cent of central government jobs for women from 2025. Besides, the party will also ensure acknowledgement to LGBTQIA+ couples. MSP and development for farmers, employment opportunities for youths, among others will be the priority of the government”.
Lilothia further took a dig at the Modi led government in the Centre over ‘anti-people policies’, ‘misgovernance’, ‘price hike’ and other issues.
