As the State celebrated the Jagannath Rath Yatra on Sunday with great religious fervor, Sanichhara in North Tripura District marked the occasion with a distinct style and grandeur.
A grand festival and competition took place at Joynagar High School, where nine intricately decorated chariots participated, captivating lakhs of devotees from North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai districts, and the neighboring Barak Valley of Assam.
The chariots, each a masterpiece of traditional art and culture, belonged to Hari Gopal Banerjee, Buddhachandra Sharma, Jaymohun Sharma, Dinbandhu Sharma, Gour Mohan Sharma, Bhavana Sharma, Krishna Gopal Sharma, Amalakant Sharma, and Ravi Sharma.
Notably, the vibrant designs and decorations of these chariots were crafted by the Manipuri Community.
With clouds hovering in the sky, devotees, dressed in colorful attire, pulled the nine majestic chariots and an atmosphere of devotion, joy, and enthusiasm enveloped the area, highlighting the unique and jubilant spirit of the celebration.
A committee formed for organizing the event was chaired by Abani Kumar Singh, Akhil Kumar Singh was the secretary, Rajib Singh and Arun Kumar Singh were the joint secretaries and Manihar Singh was the treasurer. Apart from this, the person who was responsible for making this entire event a success was Rana Singh, the head of Mahadev Tapasthali Vedic Ashram.
The judges who made this event a success included Ranjan Deb, Dilip Kumar Debbarma, the head master of Joynagar High School, Surjit Singh, a distinguished social worker from Kailashahar, Bibhukananda Bhattacharya, district president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Haran Das of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, distinguished social worker Advocate Pradip Kumar Nath, social workers Madhumangal Singh, Mita Singh and Daibala Mukherjee.
With elation and excitement prevailing, judges announced the results of the competition. Hari Gopal Banerjee’s chariot won the first prize, Buddhachandra Sharma’s chariot won the second prize and Jay Mohan Sharma’s chariot won the third prize.
The celebrations eventually came to an end leaving behind a trail of joy, happiness and religious fervor. Buoyed at the success, the organizers claimed that it would be rare to find in Tripura such a spectacle amidst orderly participation of lakhs of devotees.
