Former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura and veteran BJP leader Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed as the Governor of Telangana under major gubernatorial appointments announced late on Saturday.
According to a press communiqué issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Jishnu Dev Varma replaced Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan who held additional charge of Telangana, was moved to Maharashtra.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Jishnu Dev Varma acknowledged the President of India and the Prime Minister for this distinguished opportunity to serve as Telangana’s Governor.
This appointment is historic as Dev Varma is the first individual from Tripura to assume this prestigious role.
He highlighted the importance of this milestone for Tripura, noting, “This is a significant recognition for the people of Tripura, being the first time since Independence that someone from our state has been elevated to this position. I extend my heartfelt thanks to both leaders on behalf of Tripura.”
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha extended his wholehearted congratulations to former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Dev Varma on his appointment as the Governor of Telangana.
“My heartfelt thanks to the Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji, and the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, for this esteemed decision”, Dr Manik Saha wrote in a social media post.
Besides, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur. Om Prakash Mathur appointed as Governor of Sikkim along with appointments of new Governors of Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Meghalaya.
Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam, appointed as Governor of Punjab and has also been appointed as Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
The press communiqué also read, President of India has accepted the resignation of Banwarilal Purohit as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh.
The appointments will take effect from the dates they will assume charge of their respective offices.
