The 19th installment of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme will be disbursed on February 24, bringing financial relief to millions of farmers across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the funds from Bhagalpur, Bihar, as part of the Kisan Samman Samaroh, ensuring direct benefit transfers to eligible farmers under the scheme.
Under this installment, more than Rs 22,000 crore will be digitally transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across India. The initiative aims to provide direct financial assistance to small and marginal farmers, reinforcing the government’s commitment to agricultural welfare and rural development.
In Tripura, registered farmers under the scheme, will receive the 19th installment of the PM-KISAN worth total of Rs 50 crore 86 lakh 30 thousand which will be directly credited to their bank accounts. To ensure widespread participation and transparency, the disbursement event will be broadcast live across various agricultural subdivisions and districts of Tripura.
In addition to the national event, a state-level program will be held at the State Agricultural Research Center in Arundhati Nagar, where Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury will be present. The event is expected to witness the participation of key officials, farmers, and agricultural experts, further emphasizing the government’s ongoing support for the farming community.
Press Conference of State Agriculture Minister
Ahead of the disbursement on February 24, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister of Tripura, Ratan Lal Nath addressed a press conference at the Secretariat on Friday, highlighting the impact of the PM-KISAN scheme on farmers in the state.
He said, up to the 18th installment, a total of Rs 791 crore 75 lakh 82 thousand had already been transferred directly to the accounts of 2 lakh 77 thousand 970 farmers in the state. The financial assistance has significantly contributed to improving farmers’ livelihoods, providing them with the necessary funds to invest in agricultural inputs and sustain their farming activities.
Additional Support for Farmers
Apart from PM-KISAN, the government has implemented various financial and agricultural initiatives to support farmers:
- Agricultural Loans: Since the financial year 2018-19, loans amounting to Rs 2,142.58 crore have been disbursed to 3,81,685 farmers in the state through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.
- These loans offer financial security, allowing farmers to invest in better seeds, fertilizers, and modern farming techniques.
- Procurement of Paddy: Between 2018-19 and 2024-25, the government has procured 2,25,365 metric tons of paddy at Minimum Support Prices (MSP), benefiting 1,17,108 farmers. This initiative ensures that farmers receive fair prices for their produce.
- Soil Health Management: To promote sustainable farming, 1,88,342 farmers in the state have received Soil Health Cards, enabling them to optimize the use of fertilizers and enhance soil fertility.
Government’s Commitment to Farmers’ Welfare
Minister Ratan Lal Nath reaffirmed the government’s dedication to doubling farmers’ income and enhancing their welfare through various developmental initiatives. He highlighted that both the central and state governments are working in tandem to provide comprehensive support to farmers, ensuring that they receive financial aid, technological assistance, and access to better agricultural resources.
The press conference was also attended by Apurba Roy, Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, along with senior officials and representatives from the agricultural sector.
PM-KISAN:
The PM-KISAN scheme, launched in 2019, continues to play a pivotal role in supporting India’s farming community. By providing direct financial assistance of Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments, the scheme has been instrumental in reducing financial distress among farmers.
