President Trump informed Zelensky of his conversation with Putin during a phone call on Tuesday.
According to Karoline Leavitt, the White House spokesperson, both leaders agreed on a partial ceasefire focusing on energy infrastructure.
Leavitt, reading from an official White House statement, noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz would issue a detailed readout of the call between Trump and Zelensky.

Talks to Expand Ceasefire to Black Sea Underway
Leavitt further revealed that technical teams will meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to discuss broadening the ceasefire to the Black Sea, with the ultimate goal of achieving a full ceasefire.
“They agreed this could be the first step toward the full end of the war and ensuring security,” Leavitt stated.
Ceasefire Limited to Energy and Infrastructure Sectors
Although Trump initially proposed a 30-day ceasefire, which Zelensky accepted, the agreement between Trump and Putin resulted in a limited ceasefire covering only energy and infrastructure sectors.
Trump-Zelensky Call Described as ‘Fantastic’
Leavitt described the conversation between Trump and Zelensky as “fantastic,” highlighting that both leaders thoroughly reviewed the battlefield situation and agreed to closely share intelligence between their defense staffs.
Ukraine Requests Additional Air Defense Systems
During the call, Zelensky requested additional air defense systems to protect Ukrainian civilians, particularly Patriot missile systems. In response, Trump pledged to work with European partners to identify available defense systems to support Ukraine.
U.S. Assistance in Ukraine’s Energy Sector
In addition to military discussions, Trump and Zelensky addressed Ukraine’s electrical supply and nuclear power plants. President Trump proposed that the U.S. could provide expertise in running these plants to ensure their stability.
According to Leavitt, Trump suggested that American ownership of Ukrainian nuclear plants would offer the best protection for the country’s energy infrastructure, reinforcing Ukraine’s energy security.
Zelensky Expresses Gratitude for U.S. Leadership
Concluding the call, Zelensky expressed gratitude for Trump’s leadership in securing peace and reiterated his willingness to adopt a full ceasefire if further progress is made.
With ongoing discussions in Saudi Arabia, all eyes are now on the potential expansion of the ceasefire to broader territories, marking a possible step toward ending the war.
