Agartala: Tripura’s youth team showcased laudable talent at the 8th Northeastern Youth Festival held in Sikkim, securing third place in the one-act play competition.

Organized by India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and hosted by the Sikkim state government, the festival concluded successfully on Thursday. Held in Gangtok from March 17 to 20, the event brought together approximately 1,500 young participants, including youth representatives, NSS volunteers, and members of Nehru Yuva Kendra clubs from across the Northeastern states.

Tripura’s Strong Representation in Northeastern Youth Festival

Tripura’s 20-member contingent, representing the Nehru Yuva Kendra, comprised six participants from North Tripura, four from Dhalai, four from Khowai, two from Gomati, one from South Tripura, and three from the Tripura Daredevil Social Expedition Organization in Melaghar, Sepahijala district. Liton Shil, a renowned social worker from Tripura and recipient of the National Youth Award, was also part of the delegation.

State Team Shines at Northeastern Youth Festival

Tripura’s youth team scripted success in solo-act play at the 8th Northeastern Youth Festival, securing third place in the one-act play competition. As a reward for their achievement, the team received a prize of ₹20,000, along with certificates and mementos.

Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, presented the awards to the young artists.

Representing the victorious Tripura team, Nodal Officer Romendra Reang, Assistant Pranab Akhand, Anjan Bardhan, and the drama artists accepted the honors.

A Colorful Opening Ceremony

The festival commenced with an inaugural ceremony at Gangtok’s Paljor Stadium. The inaugural session was presided over by Sikkim’s Governor, Om Prakash Mathur. Other distinguished attendees included Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker Mingma Narbu Sherpa, officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and representatives from Sikkim’s Youth Affairs and Sports Department and Nehru Yuva Kendra.

At the start, participants marched in a colorful procession, holding their state banners and wearing traditional clothes. In Gangtok’s famous MG Marg market, youth showcased their state’s food, special clothing, items, and handmade goods like bamboo, cane, and clay products. Folk music, dances, and other performances were also part of the event.

A Memorable Conclusion & Sikkim CM’s inspiring words

The event concluded on Thursday afternoon with a grand closing ceremony at Paljor Stadium, where Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, served as the chief guest. Also in attendance was Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and other dignitaries. In his speech, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang thanked all the young participants from the Northeast. He said he hopes they will do important things for the future generation. He added, “Youth can make India stronger.” He urged them to share ideas about a developed India with everyone.
