Agartala, May 2: Tripura is experiencing a silent revolution driven by its youth. In a major boost to self-reliance and innovation, the state has witnessed a remarkable surge in startup ventures. Launched in 2019, the Tripura Startup initiative aimed at fostering youth entrepreneurship has now grown into a thriving ecosystem. From just 35 startups during the initial Startup Week, the number has soared to 141 registered startups by December 2024, making Tripura a significant contributor to the 2,054 startups across the North Eastern region.
In a social media post, Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb said, this growth reflects a deeper transformation – where the state’s youth, once entangled in politically charged environments, are now channeling their energy into building sustainable businesses. A shining example is Sajib from Dhanpur, who, through a micro-enterprise, has not only achieved self-sufficiency but is also generating livelihood opportunities for others in his community, he wrote.
The narrative is clear: Tripura’s youth are building their future through Start Ups.
Breaking Free from the Past, Building for the Future
The shift began post-2018, with a renewed focus on skill development and economic empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His vision of a Startup India and Self-Reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat) inspired Tripura’s youth to step away from aimless agitation and embrace entrepreneurship as a vehicle for change.

“Empowered youth make for a powerful nation,” the Prime Minister often says. Tripura’s story now stands as testimony to that belief.
Changing Attitudes, Creating Impact
The impact is visible not only in statistics but in social behavior. Many young individuals who earlier saw street protests as their only outlet have shifted gears towards ideation, innovation, and enterprise. The belief that ‘rallies are the only platform for youth expression’ is being steadily replaced with incubators, co-working spaces, and pitch sessions.
Moreover, these young entrepreneurs are not just job-seekers—they are becoming job creators, driving economic inclusion and inspiring others through their success stories. Their ventures span sectors like food processing, IT services, crafts, agro-tech, eco-tourism, and more.
The startup movement in Tripura is not just an economic strategy—it is a social transformation tool, turning dormant potential into dynamic progress.
