Jan 28, 2017: Nagaland Joint Coordination Committee against Municipal and Town Council elections calls for indefinite state-wide bandh from 6 AM today, Government imposes Section 377 and 294 of CrPC throughout Nagaland. The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) against Municipal and Town Council elections of Nagaland has called for a state-wide indefinite bandh from 6 AM today, in resentment against the State government for failing to heed the appeals of the people to defer the Nagaland Municipal elections.
In a memorandum to the State Chief Minister signed by JCC Convener Sapu Jamir and Secretary W. Rainbow Ngullie, which was submitted after holding a massive rally at the State Stadium Dimapur on Monday, the JCC, categorically made it clear that the civil societies hold no malice or have any intension to suppress women’s rights.
`
However, it once again univocally established their stand clear that the public opposed the divisive policy of the State Government to suppress the wishes and rights of the Nagas on natural resources, customary and traditional rights.
In the wake of this, the JCC Nagaland in a release issued late last night declared that the State wide bandh will be in force from tomorrow 6am to 6pm every day, except on Sunday, the 29th of this month. It further informed that the bandh will resume from Monday till February 1.
Further, in view of the deteriorating situation and the sensitivity surrounding the ULB elections, the State Government has imposed Section 377 and 294 of CrPC throughout the State of Nagaland.
Also, data services through GPRS 2G, 3G and broadband will be completely snapped down starting from 5 AM tomorrow till 10 PM February. (AIR News)
