Feb 15, 2017: The Chairman of ISRO Kiran Kumar has said that it is not only a record number of launching of satellites but primarily it is to increase the capability of the work horse – the PSLV. Speaking to newspersons at ISRO Shar Centre after the successful launch, Kiran Kumar said that the organisation was planning to have 12 to 18 launches a year to make the missions commercially viable. He said that there were 25 to 28 separations in the entire task of injecting 104 satellites in orbit. He said to inject the satellites within the time frame was the biggest challenge. He said four satellites were combined in quart packs to make the job easier.
The Director of Mission Chandrayaan 2 Dr.N.Annadurai said that the first mission was only to send an orbiter but the second mission will be to send a lander which will land on the surface of the moon and the rover will collect the data. Mr.Jayakumar, the director of Mission PSLV C 37 said that except for the first launch all the 38 launches of the PSLV were successful. He told that they had received excellent feed back from the customers as a good orbit was provided to them.
The Project Director of mission pslv c 37 Mr. Jayakumar said that it was a great moment for every one at ISRO today. Soon after the launch, he told that the innovative mission had a unique separation sequence which functioned well with complex manoeuvres. Kunhikrishnan, Director of Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, said that this year’s first launch is to be inscribed in golden letters in the space history of India. The 28 hour count down was the shortest period for a successful launch.
He said that in the first six months this year, three launches of PSLV, GSLV and GSLV -3 have 8 complex payloads and progressing well because of the team work. He took pride in 38th consecutive successful missions of PSLV. Dr.Venkatakrishnan, Director IPRC, said that 100 was a magnetic number and 104 not out was a milestone for ISRO today. He said that cryogenic stage has to be tested this week. The Director of ISAC M.Annadurai told that GSAT 17, GSAT 19 and GSAT 9 are ready to be launched this year.
