Agartala, May 10, 2025: In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Tripura government has launched initiatives to safeguard its students studying in Punjab and Haryana, prioritizing their safe relocation, officials announced on Saturday.
Indo-Pak tension: Tripura Govt takes Student Safety Measures
According to an IANS report, the Tripura administration has issued an advisory on Saturday directing all students from the state studying in Punjab and Haryana to immediately contact Tripura Bhavan officials in New Delhi for assistance. This move ensures seamless coordination and support for students navigating the uncertain situation arose owing to India-Pakistan tension following escalation by the Pakistan army following India’s Operation Sindoor.
To bolster accessibility, the government has introduced 24/7 emergency helpline numbers operated by Tripura Bhavan in New Delhi. These helplines are designed to provide round-the-clock guidance and support to students and their families during this challenging period.
Northeast States Rally for Student Safety
Tripura’s efforts are part of a broader response across Northeast India. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma revealed on X that approximately 70 students from Meghalaya studying in Punjab and Haryana have been safely relocated to Meghalaya House in Delhi, with more expected to arrive soon. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of our students amid the current India-Pakistan situation,” Sangma stated.

Meghalaya has also issued an advisory urging parents to evacuate their children from states bordering Pakistan at the earliest opportunity, reinforcing the region’s focus on student welfare.
Similarly, Nagaland is taking decisive steps to protect its students in northern India’s border states. A Nagaland government official emphasized that the state is implementing measures to ensure the safety of its students amid the ongoing conflict.
Naga Students’ Federation Amplifies Call for Action
The influential Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has issued an urgent appeal to the Nagaland government, pressing for immediate action to evacuate students stranded in northern India. The NSF highlighted the challenges faced by students due to airport closures triggered by the conflict, which have disrupted travel and communication.
Beyond students, the NSF noted that many residents from Nagaland are struggling to return home safely. The federation has called on the Chief Secretary to establish robust mechanisms to facilitate the swift and secure return of both students and other affected individuals. (With inputs from IANS)
