A low-intensity blast in Tripura-Mizoram border damaged a tourism infrastructure site at Phuldungsai, sparking fresh concerns over an unresolved land dispute. Authorities launch joint probe as residents call for peace and cooperation.

Agartala (Tripura), May 28 : A partially constructed structure meant for tourism development was damaged in a low-intensity explosion early Wednesday at Phuldungsai.

The spot of blast is in a disputed area along the Tripura-Mizoram border. The explotion was reportedly triggered by unidentified individuals.

Sources said, no one was injured and damage was also not extensive. The incident has sparked renewed concerns in the region.

Meanwhile, local community leaders urged people to stay calm, refrain from spreading rumors and ensure peace.

According to local sources, the building was unoccupied when the explosion occurred, minimizing potential casualties. Although the blast was not powerful, it caused damage to several walls and sections of the structure.

Synopsis: A low-intensity explosion damaged a partially constructed watchtower, part of a tourism development project by Tripura’s Forest Department, in Phuldungsai, a disputed area along the Tripura-Mizoram border. The early morning blast, caused by unidentified individuals, resulted in minor structural damage but no injuries. A joint investigation by Tripura and Mizoram police launched, with no arrests reported by late Wednesday. Local leaders suggested collaborative tourism development by both state governments to resolve the conflict.

Authorities confirmed that the damaged building was part of a tourism infrastructure project being developed by Forest Department under the Government of Tripura.

“The construction appeared to be part of a proposed watchtower under a tourism initiative,” said a senior official from the North Tripura District Administration.

Following the incident, law enforcement agencies from both Tripura and Mizoram were promptly alerted.

Accordingly, police forces from both states have launched a joint investigation, sharing initial findings and gathering evidence to identify those responsible.

Police sources indicated that the explosion occurred around dawn. Prompt communication from locals ensured a swift response from authorities, and both state administrations have since been closely monitoring the situation.

However, no one was reported to be arrested till the late Wednesday night

In the aftermath, residents of Jampui Hills have reiterated their call for a peaceful resolution to the long-standing boundary dispute.

“This disputed land issue has been unresolved for years. Both state governments need to come together and reach a settlement of the dispute amicably for the betterment of the local residents”, a local resident said.

To resolve the dispute, some of the residents suggested to develop the area as tourism site jointly by the Governments of Tripura and Mizoram.

According to the local people, the disputed patch of the land at the Tripura-Mizoram border is small.

“So, both the Governments can sit together and go for a collaborative investment in tourism infrastructure. This would benefit people of both Tripura and Mizoram”, locals suggested.

The blast has unsettled the residents of the border area, reigniting tensions over the unresolved land issue and raising concerns about peace and development in the region.
