Agartala (Tripura), May 30: Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury visited the picturesque Jampui Hills on Friday in the aftermath of a low-intensity blast targeting an under-construction tourism facility at Phuldungsei, a village located along the sensitive Tripura-Mizoram border.
During his visit, Minister Chowdhury presided over a high-level meeting with top administrative and security officials of North Tripura district to assess the situation and discuss the way forward.
As per official sources, unknown miscreants lobbed explosives at the partially built tourism complex, inflicting major structural damage. The Tourism Department had initiated the construction of a guest accommodation unit and a watchtower to enhance tourism potential in the border village.
However, the site lies within a territorially disputed zone, claimed by both the Tripura and Mizoram governments, which has led to tensions in recent times.
The review meeting held at Eden Tourist Lodge, Jampui Hills, saw the participation of Tourism Department Secretary, North Tripura District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, local MLAs, and other public representatives.
Minister Chowdhury said, “The discussion was productive. All stakeholders agreed that development work must proceed without disruption. We’ve instructed the District Forest Officer, who manages the project funds, to ensure that work resumes at the earliest.”
He further clarified that the ongoing construction was paused due to objections raised by authorities in Mizoram, but reassured that the project would soon recommence.
Responding to media queries, Chowdhury revealed that the total budget allocated for the tourism facility under construction stands at Rs 3.12 crore.
