Mar 25, 2017: ONGC has no plan or intention to shift assets from Tripura to elsewhere. The organization is fully committed to the development of the State. In fact, ONGC has initiated several steps to strengthen the capacity of Tripura ONGC Asset. Director (Onshore) of ONGC, VP Mahawar and Ed-Asset Manager of Tripura Asset S C Soni said this in a press conference today at Agartala.

“Several facilities have been introduced in ONGC Tripura Asset. Among the most notables, introduction of state of the art technology for data analysis and exploration purposes clearly indicate that ONGC has no plan to shift its focus from Tripura”, said VP Mahawar. He also said, earlier data analysis and other activities were conducted at Jorhat. But, presently these works are being carried out at Agartala Office. “We are trying to develop Agartala office as an independent work station”, he commented.

Dispelling apprehension about shift its base from Tripura, S C Soni focused upon upcoming projects. He said, connecting Gajalia Gas Collection Center (GCS) with Palatana Power Plant is one the most important projects of ONGC, Tripura Asset.

On Palatana Plant, both Mahawar and Soni stated, Palatana plant requires 32 lakh cubic meter gas for realizing its full potential. At present, Palatana Plant is receiving 26.5 lakh cubic meter gas from ONGC and producing 250-260 MW power. However, after 54-km long pipe line connects Gajalia GCS with Palatana, the plant will be capable of generating its full capacity – 726 MW power. ONGC is working hard to complete pipe line laying works within December 2018 ahead of target date.

Setting up of sophisticated software center for data analysis required for exploration, collection of gas and chalk out long term planning is just another step to develop Agartala a full-fledged work station, Mahawar stated. ONGC is working in Khubal in North Tripura and assessing the data to understand viability of gas wells found in Khubal. Within next 2-3 years final results will come up and only then fate of proposed Urea plant will be decided, opined Mahawar. He also stated, State Government is extending full support to ONGC.

Earlier in a press release, it has been mentioned, ONGC has more than doubled its production from 6,450 lakh cubic meters in 2012-13 to 13,820 lakh cubic meters in 2016-17, presently supplying to gas consumers @ 45 lakh cubic meters per day.

As part of enhancing drilling activities, the rig fleet has been increased from three rigs in 2015-16 to seven rigs in 2016-17, with one more rig under tendering stage. With the addition of these rigs, the number of wells drilled in the state has gone up from 10 -12 wells in 2015-16 to 15 wells in 2016-17 and it is further planned to go up to 22 wells per year in next three years. Citing data, Mahawar reiterated ONGC is not only continuing its activities in Tripura, but also strengthening its capacity in the State.
