Agartala (Tripura), June 11: Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, on Wednesday sharply criticized the Congress party, accusing it of promoting a corrupt political system, while commending the Narendra Modi-led central government for steering the country towards inclusive and comprehensive development.

Speaking during a press meet in Unakoti district, Nath praised the Prime Minister’s 11-year leadership, emphasizing three core values—Seva (service), Garib Kalyan (welfare of the poor), and effective governance—as central to the government’s mission. He reiterated the commitment to achieving the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Referring to landmark initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, and Vocal for Local, Nath highlighted their role in accelerating India’s economic growth and strengthening its global standing.

“In my five decades of political life, I have never seen such transformative progress at both state and national levels,” the minister remarked.

He contrasted the BJP government’s clean governance with the Congress regime’s legacy of scams, quoting Prime Minister Modi’s resolve against corruption: “Na khaunga, na khane dunga” (I won’t take bribes, nor will I allow others to).

Nath pointed out that under Modi’s leadership, India has surged from being the world’s 11th largest economy to the 4th, and is on course to become the third-largest soon.

Showcasing various achievements, he stated that the country’s defence forces have become more robust, and massive strides have been made in public welfare schemes. “Today, 84% of the population is covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a huge leap from the mere 3% coverage earlier,” he noted.

The Minister added that the agriculture budget has witnessed a fivefold increase for the 2025–26 fiscal year. Over 11 crore farmers across India have received financial aid through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, totaling over Rs 3.90 lakh crore. In Tripura alone, Rs 843 crore has been disbursed to benefit 2.83 lakh farmers.

He also highlighted the success of the PM Fasal Bima Yojana in supporting farmers, with compensation worth Rs 1,750 crore distributed under the crop insurance scheme.

“Currently, India is constructing 34 km of national highways every day. We also have 136 Vande Bharat trains in operation and 103 Amrit Bharat railway stations enhancing connectivity,” Nath said.

Underlining the impact of the Digital India initiative, he claimed that it has significantly curbed corruption and improved transparency in governance.

He further shared that India now leads globally in milk, cotton, and spice production, while ranking second in the production of rice, fish, eggs, and sugar. “Every village in the country is now electrified, showcasing the reach of developmental programs,” he concluded.
