Synopsis by enewstime: Amid mounting concerns over illegal infiltration through the Indo-Bangladesh border, Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha has issued a stern warning, declaring that the state is no longer a safe haven for infiltrators. Dr Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, stressed that fraudulent documentation, including fake Aadhaar cards, will not aid illegal settlers under the current vigilance.

Agartala (Tripura), July 4, 2025: Amidst strong voices and growing concerns about illegal infiltration in Tripura through Indo-Bangla border, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha warned the infiltrators saying Tripura is not a safe Haven. He also cautioned against fake documentation of Aadhar cards etc.

He also asserted the State Government is in touch with the concerned security agencies and directed them to ensure strict vigil preventing any attempt of infiltrations either by Bangladesh nationals or Rohingya people.

Dr Manik Saha on Thursday also asserted that even infiltrators from Bangladesh have come to realize that Tripura is no longer a safe refuge for illegal entrants.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister stated that ever since the state government issued directives to strengthen border security, all concerned agencies have been on heightened alert to prevent unauthorized crossings into Indian territory.

“Following political unrest in Bangladesh and the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government in August last year, security personnel have been maintaining strict surveillance across the Indo-Bangla border to thwart infiltration attempts,” said Saha, who also oversees the state’s Home Department.

He further emphasized that entering Tripura and residing here using fraudulent documents, such as fake Aadhaar cards, is no longer feasible under the current security framework.

Dr. Saha recently convened a high-level meeting with senior officials from multiple security agencies, including the Border Security Force (BSF). He urged them to ensure seamless coordination to effectively address cross-border concerns and broader national security issues amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions.

Reiterating the government’s firm stance, the Chief Minister made it clear that any illegal entrant who does manage to cross into Tripura would be deported as per legal protocols.

Meanwhile, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), a key ally of the ruling BJP and led by royal descendant Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, has launched a robust state-wide campaign against illegal infiltration.

TMP leader and Forest and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma echoed the government’s position, stating unequivocally that illegal infiltrators would not be allowed to remain in Tripura under any circumstances.

BSF sources confirmed that the force has significantly stepped up vigilance and area domination along the International Border, especially after violent unrest broke out in Bangladesh around June-July last year, culminating in the political shift on August 5.

Tripura, which shares an 856-kilometre border with Bangladesh on three sides, remains particularly vulnerable to cross-border activities, making it a sensitive zone for migration control and security enforcement.

While most sections of the border are already secured with fencing, efforts continue to curb smuggling, illegal crossings, and other trans-border criminal activities.

Besides, security forces across Tripura and other northeastern states, acting on directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), have intensified operations to identify and apprehend foreign nationals, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, illegally staying within Indian borders.

With coordinated surveillance, tightened security protocols, and a zero-tolerance policy toward unauthorized migrants, the state aims to safeguard its borders and internal stability.

The message is clear — Tripura will not serve as a sanctuary for illegal entrants, and all necessary legal measures will be enforced to uphold national security. (Edited)
