RBI Observing Financial Literacy Week

June 06, 2017:     To emphasize the importance of financial literacy, the Reserve Bank of India is observing June 5-9 , 2017 as Financial Literacy Week (FLW) across the country. The Focus is on four broad themes, namely, Know Your Customer (KYC), Exercising Credit Discipline, Grievance Redress and Going Digital (UPI and *99#). For the benefit of the people of Tripura, the posters on these four themes have been translated into Bangla and handed over to the bank and the Financial Literacy Centres (FLCs) for display and distribution . The rural branches and FLCs will conduct special financial literacy camps during the week. Bank will also display one financial literacy message each day on the home page of their websites as well as on ATM screens financial literacy across the country. As a part of the activities during the FLW, an online quiz is also being hosted for the general public to generate interest and create awareness about financial literacy (http://finlitweek.ncfeindia.org/).

Financial Literacy Week in Tripura was formally inaugurated by Shri Tamal Biswas, General  Manager & Officer-in-charge of Reserve Bank of India , Agartala Office in a programme  held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan on June 5,2017. The programme was attended by dignitaries like Shri Sunil Kumar, General  Manager ,NABARD, local head of bank and select educationists.

In addition to the above, RBI, Agartala Office, has arranged to display financial awareness messages through cinema halls, electronic display boards, signboards, public toilets, bus terminals, petrol pumps and hospitals. A painting competition on financial literacy themes was organized among the students of Government Art College, Agartala . Prizes worth Rs.5,000/-, Rs. 3,000/- and Rs. 2,000/- were given to the top three entries decided by a panel of judges. There will also be loudspeaker announcements about financial literacy from mobile vans. Some innovative initiatives have also been taken. For wider transmission, suitable financial literacy messages are being carried on a variety of articles to be distributed free of cost. These messages have been printed on exercise copies of school children, garden umbrellas for roadside vendors and paper bags for grocery and medicine stores.
