June 12, 2017: In Arunachal Pradesh, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme in the state at a function in Itanagar yesterday. The PM Ujjwala yojana is a Central Government Flagship programme to provide free LPG connection to the poor households across the country.
After launching the Scheme, Mr. Rijiju said Northeastern states hold the record of having the highest number of cancer patients in the country and cooking in smoke, produced by unclean fuel, is one of the main factors contributing to it. The Minister said now with this scheme of providing clean fuel free of cost, people can get rid of these health hazards. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on the occasion announced that Arunachal Pradesh government will provide 1000 rupees financial assistance to every beneficiary in addition to the central government assistance of 1,600 rupees. The scheme provides an assistance of 1,600 rupees to the beneficiary, comprising security deposit of the cylinder and others charges.
