June 14, 2017: Condemning All India BJP president Amit Shah’s alleged derogatory remark on Matma Gandi, Tripura Pradesh Congress today held ‘Satyagraha’ in Agartala. According to media reports, Amit Shah, while addressing a gathering in Raipur last week, referred to Mahatma Gandhi as a “chatur baniya”.
Agitating leaders of Congress demanded that Amit Shah should seek public apology for his comment. Tripura Pradesh Congress President Birajit Sinha, Youth Congress President Sushanta Chakraborty and other leaders of the Party led the ‘Satyagraha’.
“If BJP president Amit Shah does not seek public apology for terming Mahatma Gandhi as a ‘clever baniya’, Congress would intensify the agitation and hold demonstration all over the State”, Party leaders said. However, State Congress unit did not fix a time period for Shah seeking public apology.
Referring to Amit Shah’s remark, Birajit Sinha asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent on the issue? Sinha said, Prime Minister must react else Congress would believe that Narendra Modi is supporting his party’s president on the remark.
