Agartala (Tripura) Jul 26: Tipra Motha Party (TMP) chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma has called for immediate action to prevent any illegal entry into tribal areas under the TTAADC.
Taking to social media platform X, Debbarma urged the Chief Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to form a multi-party monitoring committee to detect unauthorized migrants.
“We must treat this issue with utmost seriousness. With large numbers being displaced in Assam, there’s a real risk of them moving into bordering states. This proposed committee must rise above political interests and serve as a guardian of our constitutional rights,” Debbarma stated.
I have requested the TTAADC to constitute a monitoring committee across all party lines to detect illegal immigrants who are illegally entering the TTAADC areas at the earliest . We should take this matter as many illegal people from Assam are being evicted and may enter…

With Assam intensifying its eviction operations across multiple districts, several northeastern states sharing border with Assam, including Tripura, have raised alerts to prevent possible illegal infiltration by displaced individuals. Authorities are closely monitoring inter-state borders amid concerns that those evicted may attempt to enter neighbouring states.
What is TTAADC
The Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), governed by the TMP, holds jurisdiction over nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s 10,491 sq km land area and is home to over 12.16 lakh people, of which nearly 84 percent belong to indigenous tribal communities.
Maintaining demographic balance and security in these areas is a top priority for the tribal council and state government alike.
Assam’s Eviction Drive Triggers Regional Alarm
The alert in Tripura follows the Assam government’s intensified eviction campaign in several districts, including Dhubri, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, and Kamrup (Metro), targeting individuals accused of illegally occupying government and forest lands.
The state administration has announced upcoming eviction operations in Golaghat and parts of southern Assam as well.
Assam shares inter-state borders totaling over 2,600 km with six northeastern states, including a 46.3 km border with Tripura.
Given the porous nature of some of these borders, there is a heightened risk of cross-border movement by displaced individuals.
Tensions peaked on July 17 when an eviction drive at Paikan Reserve Forest under the Krishnai Range in Assam’s Goalpara district turned violent, resulting in the death of one person and serious injury to another.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated the government’s firm stance on removing all encroachments from state and forest lands.
Other NE States Respond with Tightened Security
States like Nagaland, Manipur, and Meghalaya have already issued emergency directives to their respective district administrations and police units to strengthen surveillance and prevent any unauthorized entry.

In Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio held a high-level review of the Assam-Nagaland border and instructed top officials, including Chief Secretary J. Alam and DGP Rupin Sharma, to ramp up vigilance.
Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton recently visited high-risk zones along the Wokha and Niuland districts, acknowledging the efforts of local authorities and volunteers in border security.
Over 200 Infiltration Attempts Thwarted in Nagaland
The Deputy Commissioner of Nagaland confirmed that more than 200 vehicles carrying evicted individuals from Assam had attempted to cross into Nagaland.
These efforts were foiled by the district administration, police, and CRPF personnel stationed at strategic checkpoints. (With inputs from IANS)
