July 8, 2017: Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today stated, despite severe financial limitations, State Government is well ahead of the Central Government in terms of budgetary allocation for education. He also stated the State Government has brought in qualitative changes in the education system and urged students to utilize it. While inaugurating two-storied building of Swami Dayalananda Vidyaniketan at Agartala, Chief Minister made these comments.
Referring to changes in education system, Sarkar said, “Students no longer pay fees to the schools, moreover books are being offered to each student free of cost. These facilities were not available earlier”. He said around 80 percent students are receiving stipend someway or other while the students upto class VIII are getting good from their schools.
Saying this he said, student read the text books thoroughly and should make all out efforts to score at least 50 per cent marks, not just obtaining pass marks. Apart from scoring good marks, it is important that student should become good citizens and teachers have a big role to play for overall progress of students, he stated and underlined that students should be nurtured in a way that they learn to work and live in the society without discriminating between caste, creed and religion. Citing success of blood donation campaign, he expressed hope that State would excel in education in near future.
State Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty also addressed spoke on the occasion. More than 1000 people attended the inaugural programme.
