Community Health Officer Saves Child’s Life with Swift Action in Rural Tripura
Agartala Aug 30: In the rural heartland of Khowai district of Tripura, Community Health Officers (CHOs) at Ayushman Arogya Mandir have made an inspiring example in providing community healthcare to village people.
A remarkable example of their commitment unfolded on August 28, when Arpita Debnath, a CHO at the Sonatala Ayushman Arogya Mandir in East Sonatala Gram Panchayat, saved a young child’s life through quick thinking and compassionate action.
The incident occurred when a child, playing with a bicycle, suffered a severe injury after his right hand became entangled in a cycle chain. His classmates, in a frantic attempt to free him, struggled for several minutes, inadvertently worsening the injury. The child’s hand was left deeply cut, bleeding profusely, and severely damaged.
His friends rushed him to the nearby Sonatala Ayushman Arogya Mandir, where Arpita Debnath sprang into action.
With calm professionalism, Arpita cleaned and bandaged the child’s wound to stabilize his condition. Recognizing the severity of the injury, she determined that advanced medical care was urgently needed at the Chebri Primary Health Center.
However, the child’s parents, both daily wage laborers, were working far from home and unavailable to accompany him. Undeterred, Arpita took the initiative to personally escort the child to the health center.
At Chebri, Dr. Priyanka Debbarma promptly treated the child, providing critical care and prescribing necessary medications. Once the child’s guardians arrived, they received the medications and instructions to return for regular wound dressings to ensure proper healing.
Arpita’s swift response and dedication were pivotal in ensuring the child received timely care, potentially saving his life. The child’s family later visited the Sonatala Ayushman Arogya Mandir to express their heartfelt gratitude to Arpita and her team for their lifesaving efforts.
Their story underscores the vital role of CHOs in bridging healthcare gaps in rural areas, where access to timely medical intervention can be a matter of life and death. These dedicated professionals provide essential services, including routine health check-ups, maternal and newborn care, vaccination guidance, and health awareness campaigns, ensuring the well-being of every household in their villages.
