Dr Manik Saha Interacts with Media on Development Initiatives in Tripura
Agartala Sep 24: Tripura Government is working on developing a ‘Satellite Town’ in Agartala to combat congestion in the city, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today.
Dr. Saha took part in an interactive meeting with editors and senior journalists at Polo Towers in Agartala.
The event, hosted by the ICA Department, centred on a broad spectrum of developmental issues.
During the session, members of the press voiced concerns over healthcare and Ayushman Bharat cards, national highway projects, railway links, the state’s economy, and the worsening traffic situation in Agartala.

Dr. Saha, accompanied by Health Secretary Kiran Kumar Gitte and RD Secretary Abhishek Singh, addressed each matter comprehensively.
Regarding traffic congestion, Dr. Saha informed participants that the state government has earmarked land for developing a Satellite Town.
Once established, multiple government offices and important institutions will be relocated there, which will reduce the burden on the city.
Kiran Gitte mentioned that Agartala has around 3.9 lakh vehicles.
To mitigate congestion, three multi-level parking projects are currently in progress.
In addition, the State Government has sanctioned Rs 31 crore to AMC for surface parking facilities.
On healthcare reforms, the Chief Minister explained that AIIMS doctors, who recently visited the state, are assisting in improving floor management to shorten patient waiting times.
He stressed the importance of outsourcing MRI services to guarantee round-the-clock availability.
Dr. Saha also highlighted significant advances in organ transplants and critical surgeries being carried out at GB Hospital and AGMC.
He further said that seven district hospitals and ten PHCs are undergoing upgrades with advanced equipment.
To strengthen HIV/AIDS prevention measures, Red Ribbon Clubs have been launched in 100 schools, while HIV testing has been introduced at PHCs, with additional state support supplementing NACO funding.

When asked about infrastructure, Dr. Saha announced that the National Highway would be upgraded to a four-lane road parallel to the railway line, with tunnels passing through the Baramura and Longtharai hills.
Regarding rehabilitation for surrendered militants, the Chief Minister shared that 40 percent of the Rs 250 crore package has already been distributed.
Later, in a Facebook post, Dr. Saha stated that the constructive feedback and viewpoints offered by media professionals would contribute to advancing Tripura’s development path.
Health Secretary Kiran Kumar Gitte also spoke on new initiatives, noting that the government is weighing the reintroduction of a transportation subsidy for manufacturing units to boost MSMEs’ market reach.
He further mentioned that talks with banks are ongoing to raise the state’s CD ratio, which currently stands at 52 percent and initiatives for women entrepreneurs for the expansion of the market for their products.
