August 13, 2017: Flood situation is fast improving and many people who took shelter in relief camps are returning to their homes. Hailing the role of youths of the State in relief and rescue operation during flood,
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar termed their services as praiseworthy and congratulated the voluntary services rendered when people were marooned. Speaking at 14th biannual State Conference of the All Tripura Blind Committee today, Sarkar said, “During critical hours of need on Friday and later, youths came out spontaneously and joined hands rescue operation as well as rendered invaluable services to reach marooned people with relief materials”.
Meanwhile, water levels in rivers of the State are also receding. Chief Secretary of Tripura Sanjeev Ranjan today reviewed the flood situation. Among the eight district, West Tripura district was the worst affected and more than 9600 people are still staying in 48 different relief camps across the district. In the review meeting the Chief Secretary emphasized upon distribution of relief materials to affected people. It is learnt the administration has taken all necessary steps to this end.
Local sources said, instead of indulging into political slugfest, all the political parties took initiative to assist marooned people. “Role of political parties is really appreciable and there was no political chaos so far”, stated a resident of Baldakhal near Agartala.
