August 20, 2017: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today laid foundation stone of State’s biggest and first international cricket stadium at Narshingarh, 20 KM away from Agartala. The 25,000 seater cricket stadium will be the second largest cricket stadium in North East after stadium in Guwahati. The stadium will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 200 crore and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will offer financial assistance to the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA).
According to TCA Secretary Tapas Dey, the BCCI will reimburse 50 per cent cost of the stadium, being constructed at Narshingarh, 20 km north of Agartala. A New Delhi-based construction company will construct the stadium. Talking about facilities, Dey said a seven storied club house, modern lift, electronic scoreboard etc are important features of the stadium.
Laying the foundation stone, Manik Sarkar said, all the modern facilities of international quality will be available in the stadium so that international cricket matches could be held. Chief Minister also said that the stadium would boost cricket, not only in Tripura, but also in whole North Eastern Region. Saying that there is a huge reservoir of sports talent in Tripura and other NE States, Sarkar said, the stadium will help to nurture and develop their talents and skills.
