September 19, 2017: Sporadic violence and arson erupted after tribal based Party IPFT (NC Faction) reportedly attacked and assaulted Left wing tribal organization – Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) supporters today at different places in Tripura. Around 100 GMP supporters reportedly received injuries and at least 20 wounded persons were shifted to GB Hospital, Agartala with grievous injuries.
GMP supporters were coming to Agartala in buses and vans to attend a rally which was addressed by the Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. “On the way to Agartala, IPFT supporters armed with lethal weapons stopped our bus and thrashed us. At least 50 GMP supporters were injured in the attack”, said one GMP supporter and stated the incident took place at Chankhola area on Agartala-Khowai Road. Sources said, As part of precautionary measures, prohibitory order has been promulgated in Champaknagar, Belbari, Khumulwng, Jampuijala, Tulashikar, Champahower and Behalabari areas.
