September 20, 2017: In the wake of assault and arson allegedly unleashed by IPFT cadres on Tuesday on GMP supporters, leaders of CITU led by MP Shankar Prashad Dutta today submitted a deputation to DG demanding immediate arrests of the culprits and stern actions against the accused persons.
“IPFT supporters assaulted Gana Mukti Parishad supporters severely at Chonkhola and other places under Khowai district as well as Champak nagar while GMP were coming to Agartala to attend a rally. Hundreds of GMP supporters were injured while IPFT cadres torched at least 10 vehicles”, CITU delegates alleged.
CITU sources alleged, IPFT resorted to undemocratic and barbaric activities – assault with lethal weapons and arson – to prevent GMP supporters from attending the rally. The violence and mayhem created by IPFT supporters earned all round condemnation among the tribal communities. It is alleged, elders were also not sparred by the ‘ruthless’ IPFT supporters.
“IPFT’s naked dance during road blockade already created stir among the tribal youths. Further violence on other occasion at Bodhjung Nagar, Khumlung and Jampuijala created large scale dissent among the tribal people”, a resident of Champaknagar who witnessed yesterday’s violence stated.
