Proper health communication: NHM holds media workshop in North Tripura
Dharmanagar Dec 2: The North Tripura District Health & Family Welfare Society on Monday convened a media sensitisation workshop in Dharmanagar to strengthen collaboration between the health department and the press reinforcing the importance of accurate health communication. The day-long programme, held at a private hotel’s conference hall, focused on equipping journalists with clearer insights into the National Health Mission (NHM) and its key public welfare schemes.
District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deepak Haldar, along with senior officials Dr. Arindam Das and Dr. Alok Kumar Dhar, led discussions on how timely and accurate reporting can significantly improve the reach of government health services.
They stressed that a well-informed media acts as a crucial bridge between health authorities and citizens, especially in combating misinformation and boosting awareness in remote areas.
Participants were briefed on the functioning of district and sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres. Officials outlined major NHM initiatives—including Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), immunisation drives, and adolescent health programmes—and highlighted recent achievements under NPCDCS and the tuberculosis control programme. The ‘Nikshay Mitra’ initiative, which promotes community involvement in TB eradication, was also discussed.

The session further informed media representatives about cashless healthcare benefits available to Ayushman cardholders under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana.
Medical officers, district health officials and journalists from various organisations took part in the workshop, which aimed to build a more collaborative framework for spreading reliable health information across North Tripura.
