In support of 8-point demand, BEd qualified aspiring teachers staged a sit-in demonstration in front of Shiksha Bhavan in Agartala on Wednesday.
Also, they raised the demand for an immediate recruitment drive in order to mitigate the teachers’ crisis emerged in the state government-run schools following the retrenchment of 10,323 ad hoc teachers. The aspirants argued, that the government must come up with transparent data regarding the total GT and PGT vacant posts in the departments and then decide whether their demands are justified or not.
The job-seekers also resented the government’s move of recruiting 175 graduate teachers and 65 postgraduate teachers citing that this drive is failing to match up the aspirations of the qualified people. “The government has published a notification to appoint 175 graduate and 65 postgraduate teachers whereas the number of qualified people is huge. In addition, the retrenchment of 10,323 teachers has only reduced the number of active teachers’ strength in state-run schools. The government must consider the real situation of schools and then decide”, said an agitating student.

And, by virtue of our studies, we are trained to be teachers. So, the government must consider our matter with top priority”, another student said after chanting slogans.
