Alleged ganja nexus: Head woman Police constable arrested in Tripura
The woman head constable of Tripura Police, Gayatri Das who was earlier suspended for her alleged links with ganja dealer, was arrested on Thursday in Agartala.
Das was suspended soon after a video went viral in the social media where she was heard talking with a ganja dealer about procuring dry ganja in quantities from a woman ganja trader. She was also heard talking about price and packaging the dry ganja. She was deputed as head constable in East Women PS at Agartala in Tripura.
The audio link was later widely circulated in various social media platforms prompting the police to take stern actions against her. A departmental inquiry in this regard was ordered.
The viral audio clip triggered serious concern among the netizens .
Alongside the departmental inquiry, a specific case (56/2021) was registered in the Sidhai police station under West Tripura district. The investigating officer of the case arrested Gayatri and one of her accomplices identified as Prasanta Chakraborty.
Both of them were later forwarded before the Court with a prayer of seven days police remand on the part of police. Earlier, Das was brought to West Agartala police station for primary investigation. Public Prosecutor Biswajit Deb, who represented the police shared the details of the case and said the case was registered under section 20 (B), (C) of the NDPS act 1985.
