An extraordinary archaeological find has captivated the residents of Bhuiyapara in the Deoracherra ADC Village of Gournagar Block in Tripura. Workers unearthed an ancient stone idol buried beneath the ground on Tuesday, sparking widespread intrigue and speculation about its origins.

The discovery quickly became the talk of the town, with news spreading like wildfire on social media. Scores of curious locals flocked to the site, many lighting incense and offering prayers. Some speculated the idol could represent revered deities such as Brahma, Ganesh, or Shiva, while others pondered its historical and cultural significance.

A Prompt Response by Authorities

Recognizing the potential importance of the artifact, local authorities acted swiftly. Key officials, including Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Pradip Sarkar, Assistant Conservator of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Abhishek Kumar, Gournagar Block BDO Pranay Das, and Deoracherra ADC Head Umesh Nama, visited the site to assess the idol’s significance.

SDM Sarkar noted that the idol, intricately carved from stone, could hold considerable historical value. The ASI team has already begun coordinating with senior officials to verify its age and trace its origins. Meanwhile, security measures have been implemented to protect the artifact from potential damage or vandalism.

Bhuiyapara’s proximity to notable historical landmarks adds to the intrigue. The site is just three kilometers from the famed Unakoti rock carvings, a UNESCO heritage contender, and 1.5 kilometers from Shivbari village, home to Asia’s largest stone Shivalinga. Officials believe the newly discovered idol could be linked to these iconic locations, offering insights into the region’s cultural and religious past.

To ensure its preservation and facilitate further study, BDO Pranay Das arranged for the idol’s transfer to the Unakoti District Magistrate’s office. Despite its relocation, the artifact continues to attract public interest, with crowds eager to catch a glimpse of this remarkable piece of history.

A Boost for Community Pride

The discovery has electrified the local community, instilling a renewed sense of pride in their heritage. The influx of visitors has brought attention to Bhuiyapara, with residents hopeful that this find could elevate the village into a significant archaeological and tourist destination.

“The idol’s unearthing is not just a historical revelation but a moment of cultural revival for our community,” shared one resident, expressing optimism about its potential to bring long-term benefits to the area.

Expert Analysis and Ongoing Investigations

SDM Pradip Sarkar emphasized the idol’s potential to shed light on the region’s historical and religious practices. “We are committed to conducting an in-depth investigation to uncover the artifact’s story and ensure its preservation,” he stated.

The ASI’s involvement underscores the artifact’s significance, with experts expected to determine its age, craftsmanship, and historical context. This revelation could provide invaluable insights into Tripura’s ancient traditions and its connections to larger cultural landscapes.

A Window into the Past

As investigations continue, both the local community and the broader archaeological community eagerly await further developments. The ancient idol promises to unlock mysteries of the past, offering a glimpse into the historical fabric of Bhuiyapara and its surroundings.

With its proximity to iconic landmarks and the buzz surrounding this discovery, Bhuiyapara could soon emerge as a crucial site for heritage and tourism in Tripura.
