BJP flays CPIM, Cong for falsely naming minister's son in Kumarghat rape case

As the Opposition parties in Tripura – CPIM and Congress – are blaming the ruling BJP and its one of the Ministers relating to a rape case, ICA Minister of the State, Sushanta Chowdhury came out with blazing guns and dubbed the allegation as an ill motivated campaign.

enewstime-Sushanta-BJP-Tripura-slams-Opposition-enewstimeChowdhury strongly condemned the malicious campaign against the son of the Labour Minister Bhagaban Das claimed the son is innocent and false allegations were raised against him by the opposition.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters in Agartala, Chowdhury alleged, the opposition’s campaign is politically motivated. He said, police already initiated a probe into the incident and arrested six persons in connection with the rape incident.

Continuing further, he said, the minister’s son is not there among the six arrested persons. Even the FIR didn’t include the name of the minister’s son. The victim in her statement to police also didn’t name the minister’s son. The son of Minister Bhagaban Chandra Das was falsely named in the case by the opposition political parties, Chowdhury alleged.

He detailed the incident and said, “The incident took place on October 19 and the minister’s son was out of Kumarghat since October 10 last. The CCTV footage of his stay in Agartala during that period is also available with the police”.

Medical check-up of the victim was done and her judicial statement was recorded. Six persons were arrested in connection with the incident.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim girl was allured by her friend (another girl) and was taken to a rented house at Kumarghat where she was given a drink. Subsequently the girl was gang-raped,” the press release said.

ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also spoke on the October 25 firing incident at Natunnagar in Agartala and said police solved the case very quickly. He said, the government and the ruling party maintain zero tolerance on corruption and law and order issues.

He reminded that SDM Sadar Sukram Debbarma was shot dead in his chamber along with his body guard and Minister Bimal Sinha was also killed during the Left regime but the then ruling CPI-M couldn’t arrest the killers.
