In an attempt to place Tripura firmly on the global tourism map, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated the Tripura Tourism Promo Fest 2024 on Tuesday at Narikelkunja in the Gandatwisa (Gandachhera) subdivision of Dhalai district of Tripura.
The event is the first of its kind in the state, showcasing Tripura's rich cultural heritage and diverse tourist attractions, and is expected to boost the local economy through increased tourism.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to making Tripura a prominent tourism hub.
“Such festivals not only bring to light our state’s vibrant cultural heritage but also make our tourism sector more appealing to visitors from across the country and beyond,” said Dr. Saha.
Highlights of Inauguration Ceremony :
1. Infrastructure Development for Tourism :
Dr. Saha inaugurated a newly constructed suspension bridge over the Dumbur reservoir. It is an architectural marvel expected to enhance connectivity and attract more tourists to the area.
He also distributed registration certificates to nine private entrepreneurs managing newly established homestays in Narikelkunja, promoting community-driven tourism.
The Chief Minister further mentioned that under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, 10 new log huts have been constructed in Narikelkunja, adding to the 51 already completed across the state.
These accommodations will soon be open to visitors, offering a unique blend of modern amenities and serene natural settings.
2. First-Ever Tripura Tourism Promo Fest :
Organized by the Tourism Department, this landmark event will feature cultural showcases, traditional musical instrument displays, and a tribal food festival celebrating Tripura’s rich culinary heritage.
A key highlight will be a performance by renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal on December 14, during the closing ceremony at Swami Vivekananda Ground in Agartala.
3. Economic and Employment Opportunities :
Dr. Saha emphasized the potential of tourism to contribute significantly to the state's GDP and create job opportunities.
"By enhancing tourism infrastructure and organizing such festivals, we are laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth," he said.
Tourism Minister speaks:
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also addressed the event, calling tourism a pivotal driver of the state's economic progress.
He unveiled plans for several new projects, including the development of a 51-pilgrimage center at Banduar in Udaipur and upgrades to other key tourist destinations like Chabimura, Dumbur, Neermahal, Unakoti, and Jampui Hills.
“The Tripura Tourism Promo Fest will inspire greater interest in our state’s tourism potential and attract both domestic and international visitors,” said Sushanta Chowdhury.
Celebration at Narikelkunja :
Narikelkunja, a picturesque island on the Dumbur Lake, became the heart of the festivities.
The inauguration day featured a vibrant boat race competition, a cultural program showcasing traditional dances and songs by local artists, and exhibition stalls organized by self-help groups and the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited.
The Chief Minister personally awarded prizes to the winners of the boat race, applauding their efforts and the festive spirit of the event.

The Tripura Tourism Promo Fest 2024 is set to run until December 14, with events scheduled across various locations in the state. These include cultural performances, heritage exhibitions, and culinary showcases, culminating in the grand closing ceremony in Agartala.
With its blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and modern amenities, Tripura Tourism Promo Fest 2024 promises to be a turning point in the state's journey toward becoming a global tourism hotspot.
