College student attempts suicide in Gramin Bank

One college student reportedly attempted committing suicide at Kulai branch of Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB). The student, Mira Badyakar of TRTC Para in Ambassa, was in great distress after someone had allegedly taken out all of his deposit – Rs 65000 – from her account. The incident occurred on July 2 last.

Later, she along with locals came to Kulai branch and wanted to know as to how someone else could take out the money from her account. Mira also claimed that she had not withdrawn money from her account.

Mira told media that she was a college student and earned money by providing private tuitions and deposited the same in the Bank.

Based on her complaint, Regional Manager of TGB along with other top officials reached Kulai Branch from Head Office in Agartala and held a closed door meeting with Mira. According to Mira, bank officials made her to sign in blank papers under pretext of verifying her signature.

During the meeting, suddenly Mira Badyakar rushed out of the meeting room and attempted to commit suicide by hanging herself from one ceiling fan inside the bank. Her neighbours and other people managed to prevent her.

Bank officials tried to sit for discussion with her again - but Mira refused and strongly demanded that money would have to be deposited in her account at the earliest.

“If the Bank fails to recover and deposit the sum in account, they would be held responsible anyeventuality happen to me”, Mira said.

Meanwhile, local people started gathering at the Bank premises – sensing trouble, Regional Manager and other Officials left the Bank. However, next move of the Bank in handling the situation remains unknown.
