Communication system development in Tripura: Japan keen to extend assistance

Japan-Mari-Sakai-Tripura-ICA-Minister-SushantaJapan is interested to extend assistance in the development of communication system in Tripura.

 

Mari Sakai, the Second Secretary of Japan High Commission in New Delhi, paid a courtesy visit to Tripura Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury at the civil secretariat in Agartala on Monday and held discussions to explore the possibilities.

 

According to Chowdhury, the official of Japan High Commission in New Delhi arrived in Tripura to explore various possible aspects as the Government of Japan is keen to extend help the government for development of the communication system in Tripura.

 

Talking about the meeting with Mari Sakai, the ICA Minister said, firstly, I expressed my condolence at the untimely demise of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe who was fatally shot by an assassin and condemned the cowardly attack on Abe.

 

Chowdhury further said, the former Prime Minister of Japan always stressed cordial relations between India and Japan. He took a special role in strengthening bi-lateral relations between Indian and Japan.

The discussion was positive and it would be fruitful in near future, Chowdhury commented in a social media post.

 

Notably, Project for Sustainable Catchment Forest Management in Tripura (SCATFORM)  funded under Japanese ODA Loan is to be implemented over a period of 10 years beginning from 2018-19 by Tripura Forest Department with a total outlay of about Rs 1000 Crore. This is one of the largest Project in the natural resource sector in the country.

 

A team of JICA India Mission visited Tripura from September 21 to 23 and reviewed the progress of SCATFORM Project being implemented in the state.

 

As part of the visit, the JICA Mission team attended a review meeting in the conference hall of Prakriti Bhavan and reviewed the component wise physical and financial process of SCATFORM Project presented by CEO and PD, JICA, Dr. Avinash M. Kunfade.

 

After the presentation, the visiting JICA officials appreciated the progress of the SCATFOEM Project despite Covid-19 pandemic for over two years.
