Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced plans to engage with senior central leaders to introduce the Smart City Mission project 2.0, aiming to further enhance development efforts in the state. This declaration came after Dr. Saha laid foundation stones for the development and beautification of Shiv Bari Pond on Central Road, a lake in Ujan Abhoynagar, and the Veterinary Hospital Lake under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.
"Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, we will develop and beautify three ponds in Agartala city. We've secured 90% of the funds from the Centre and 10% from the state. Similarly, the ongoing Smart City Mission has already allocated around Rs 500 Crore to our state, enabling us to accomplish significant developments. I plan to discuss with our Delhi leaders the launch of Smart City 2.0, akin to AMRUT 2.0, to continue our development momentum," stated Dr. Saha.
The Chief Minister highlighted the positive impressions of visitors regarding Tripura's development, noting substantial improvements in law and order and infrastructure. He stressed the importance of communal responsibility in maintaining and beautifying local water bodies to mitigate issues such as flooding, often exacerbated by improper waste disposal.
“Tripura has seen significant improvements in development and law and order, largely due to Prime Minister Modi's emphasis on progress. It's crucial for all of us to maintain and beautify our lakes and ponds. Criticism during floods often overlooks the role of garbage, bottles, and debris in exacerbating the problem. We need collective responsibility. Previously, there was no consistent development or maintenance of ponds in and around Agartala. We must depoliticize development efforts,” Dr. Saha remarked.
The Chief Minister also lauded Prime Minister Modi's lasting impact through his development initiatives.
Dr. Saha, who also serves as Tripura's Health Minister, shared the progress on the state’s first kidney transplantation. He said, A 12-member team from Manipur assisted in the transplant, with the patient's mother donating a kidney to her son. Tripura's medical staff received training in Manipur and will eventually manage procedures independently.
Additionally, the Chief Minister criticized those opposing development efforts and emphasized transparency in job allocations, contrasting it with past practices of job distribution based on political participation.
“We will not provide jobs without transparency. Previously, youths had to attend rallies to secure employment. We've integrated ILS and TMC under the CM Jan Arogya Yojana Scheme, and we plan to expand this implementation further,” he concluded.
