Union Minister of Food, Public Distribution, Consumer Affairs, and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, has consented to the establishment of a Regional Office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in the state. During a review meeting at the Secretariat, in the presence of Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, the Union Minister conveyed the Central Government's positive stance on this state initiative.
The meeting, held on Saturday, was attended by key figures including Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Susanta Chowdhury, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Chief Minister's Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, and senior officials from the Central Ministry. The state government has committed to providing the requisite land in Agartala for this new FCI office, with a project proposal soon to be forwarded to the Central Ministry.
Joshi was briefed on the ongoing developmental initiatives in the state and expressed his approval of the successful execution of both central and state projects.
He underscored the Central Government's focus on the development of the Northeast, lauding the transformative work under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which, he noted, surpasses that of the last 75 years.
The Union Minister assured that he would liaise with concerned ministries regarding the issues highlighted by various state departments.
In the meeting, Joshi acknowledged the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha in driving Tripura's development forward.
Chief Minister Saha emphasized that the Northeast is now making strides in various developmental sectors thanks to the Prime Minister's "Act East Policy." He pointed to the recent 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council hosted by the state as a testament to this progress, and highlighted advancements in tourism, agriculture, and horticulture, which have led to an increase in the state's per capita income. He also acknowledged the recent visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the 72nd Plenary Session, where Shah directly engaged with beneficiaries, expressing gratitude for his involvement and insights.
Secretaries from various departments, including Health, Industry and Commerce, Rural Development, Urban Development and Water Resources, Scheduled Castes Welfare, Forestry, Animal Resources Development, and Fisheries, presented comprehensive reports on their developmental initiatives.
The Special Secretary of the Food Department, Ravel Hemendra Kumar, provided an in-depth report on food storage improvements and other relevant issues. Discussions also covered the state's public distribution system, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and consumer affairs.
Additionally, updates on renewable and alternative energy projects were shared by Secretary Abhishek Singh, while Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy showcased the successful implementation and outcomes of agricultural development projects.
