Electric shock claims life of a 34-year-old Tripura State Rifles jawan

In a tragic incident, 34-year-old Deepak Debnath, a jawan stationed at the 13th Tripura State Rifles (TSR) Battalion in Subhashnagar under the Kanchanpur subdivision of Tripura, lost his life on Tuesday after suffering a fatal electric shock. The jawan, a resident of the Makumchhara area in Laljuri block, tragically died due to what appears to be a preventable accident.

According to sources, Debnath was engaged in painting the tin roof of one of the rooms at the battalion’s headquarters when the accident occurred. While carrying out the task, his wet paintbrush came into contact with a live low-tension (LT) electric line running just above the roof. The contact caused a sudden electric shock, resulting in the jawan’s immediate collapse to the ground.

Fellow battalion members rushed Debnath to Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he was provided initial treatment. Due to the severity of his condition, he was quickly referred to Dharmanagar District Hospital. However, as his health deteriorated further, the decision was made to transport him to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced care. Tragically, Debnath passed away en route to Agartala, unable to recover from the critical injuries sustained from the electric shock.

His body has been kept at GBP Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday. After the examination, Debnath’s body will be returned to the 13th TSR Battalion headquarters in Kanchanpur, where his fellow jawans and family members will have the opportunity to pay their final respects.

The sudden and untimely death of Deepak Debnath has plunged his fellow jawans and relatives into profound grief.
