How Pineapples, Bamboo, Skill Development Fuel Progress, Dr Saha Shares Vision With Media Team
The state government is prioritizing MSMEs, tourism, information technology, skill development, and self-reliance as key areas for the socio-economic advancement of Tripura's people. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha highlighted this vision while speaking with visiting journalists from Chhattisgarh at his official residence earlier on Saturday.
Presenting the government’s developmental agenda, he emphasized the state's substantial potential in tourism, an industry that offers significant opportunities for employment and livelihood. He noted that Tripura’s economy relies not only on agriculture but also on its rich resources, including rubber, bamboo, and natural gas, which the government is leveraging to drive industrial growth.
The Chief Minister also underscored the high demand for Tripura’s agricultural products, including pineapple, jackfruit, oranges, cashew nuts, and ginger, which have become focal points for government support. Tripura ranks as India's second-largest natural rubber producer, and the state also supplies 60% of the country’s incense sticks, crafted from locally sourced bamboo. To further develop the bamboo and cane industries, the government has established bamboo parks, common facility centers, and specialized design and production cells.
Responding to questions from journalists, the Chief Minister noted that uplifting the state’s tribal communities remains a top priority. With World Bank support, various programs aim to enhance tribal welfare, including stipends for students, the establishment of coaching centers, merit awards, financial assistance, and quality education initiatives such as the Eklavya Model Schools.
The Chief Minister also detailed improvements in healthcare, including two medical colleges, one dental college, a private medical college, and institutions for BSc nursing and paramedical education. Additionally, nine super-specialty services are available at Agartala Government Medical College and GB Hospital, as part of the government’s vision to make Tripura a medical hub. He presented the state’s industrial policy, designed to support industry establishment through initiatives like a single-window portal system.
Sports development, e-governance through e-office, self-reliance projects, bio-village initiatives, and women's self-help groups were also prominent in his address. The Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr. PK Chakraborty and Press Information Bureau officials were present for the discussion.
Fourteen journalists from Chhattisgarh, who arrived in Agartala on October 22, explored various parts of the state to observe its people’s lifestyles and ongoing infrastructural projects. They commended the state government's efforts in promoting sustainable development.
