International MSME Day: Women Power Tripura's MSMEs, 35pc of Registered Units Led by Women

There are a total of 58,743 industrial units in Tripura registered under the Udyam project of MSME in the state till June 2024. Besides, Out of the total registered 35% of the registered industries in the state are completely run by women. The information was revealed during the inauguration of the International Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day celebrations in Agartala on Thursday.

The event was organized by the state Department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with the Development and Facilitation Centre of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of the Central Government located in the state. International Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day is celebrated all over the world every year on June 27.

In her inaugural speech, Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma said, “It is noteworthy that till June, 2024, a total of 58,743 industrial units have been registered under the Udyam project of MSME in the state. Out of these, 57,725 are registered as micro industries, 949 as small industries and 69 as medium industries”.

International-MSME-Day-TripuraSpeaking on the occasion, Industries and Commerce Department Director Vishwasree B said that there are nearly 3 lakh MSMEs registered in the northeastern states.

She said 35% of the registered industries in the state are completely run by women.

Santana Chakma reiterated, the state government has been paying special attention to the development of micro, small and medium industries (MSMEs) in its efforts to boost the state's economy and promote international trade.

"The government is taking steps to make all those involved in these industries aware of the various schemes and projects being implemented by the state and central governments for the development of MSMEs in the state," she said.

The minister said that if all these industries take advantage of the benefits of the government schemes, it will be helpful in the development of industries.

The minister further said that the government will stand by those who come forward for the development of industries in the state.

Vishwasree B said the central government recently sanctioned Rs 65 crore for the development of the MSME sector in the state under the RAMP (RAMP) scheme.

Moreover, 10,945 people have been sanctioned training in various fields under the PM Vishwakarma scheme. Out of these, 2,754 people were already trained. Under this scheme, a loan of up to Rs 1 lakh is provided to the trainees at 5% interest in the first phase. So far 36 people in the state have received loans under this scheme. At the function, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma along with other guests felicitated 5 such beneficiaries.

Others who spoke at the function included Additional Director of Industries and Commerce Department Swapna Debnath and  Assistant Director of Development and Facilitation Center in Tripura Sohanlal Khalia. In the second phase of the function, representatives from various self-help groups were trained on the various processes of setting up new industries and the various schemes of the state and central governments.
