The residents of Jampui Hill, represented by the Mizo Convention, formally submitted a detailed charter of demands to Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha on Monday, seeking immediate attention and intervention for the development of the area. The document, signed by president of Mizo Convention J.D. Mawia and general secretary Dr. Zâiremthiama Pachuau, outlined key infrastructural and administrative needs, along with new initiatives aimed at uplifting the lives of the local population.

Key Demands

The charter emphasizes 15 previously submitted demands and introduces three new points. Major demands include:

  1. Water Supply and Healthcare:
    • A comprehensive water supply project using the Sailut River as a source.
    • Upgradation of the Jampui Primary Health Centre (PHC) to a Community Health Centre (CHC), and better functionality of the Sabual PHC with adequate staffing and resources.
  2. Education and Employment:
    • Establishment of a degree college by upgrading the Jampui Class XII School.
    • Introduction of Mizo language as a subject in Tripura University and Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
    • Establishment of School Inspectorate
  3. Infrastructure Development:
    • Upgradation of Jampui Market Center and construction of a horticulture/agriculture link road encircling the hill range to boost farmers’ incomes.
    • Better electric supply through tower line renovations and setting up a fire service station.
  4. Youth and Culture:
    • Establishment of a Youth Affairs and Sports Cell in Jampui Hill RD Block.

Besides, the residents have also urged the state government to:

  • Expedite the construction of the Vanghmun heliport and the completion of the Tlaksih to Chhimluang segment of NH44A.
  • Resolve a pending court case involving two leaders of the Jampui Hill Farmers Union (JAMFU), who were ‘wrongfully’ implicated in a peaceful protest.

Environmental and Boundary Concerns: The charter calls for preserving the biodiversity of Thaidawr Tlâng (Betlingchhip), Tripura’s highest peak, by designating it a protected biodiversity area. They have also urged for the peaceful resolution of the inter-state boundary dispute between Tripura and Mizoram.
