Massive political violence in Tripura, at least 30 injured, 25 houses ransacked

Massive political violence erupted at Charilam under Sepahijala district in Tripura on late Saturday night. At least 30 persons - all are reported to BJP supporters - were injured in the attack. Widespread tension and panic gripped the entire area.

 

The attack was launched in 25 houses located at Parimal Choumuhani allegedly by supporters of CPIM and Congress who were armed with sticks, iron rods and machete etc.

 

In the sweeping attack, goon assaulted people, even women and children were also not spared. Besides, the goons ransacked and damaged furniture of every house.

 

Local people held CPIM and Congress responsible for the attack. Claiming that the attack was premeditated, local people said the goons attacked from various sides.

 

"A heinous attempt seems to be designed to ignite communal sentiments as most of the attackers belonged to the minority community", claimed a resident of Parimal Choumuhani on condition of anonymity. Locals alleged minority community people from Aralia at Charilam were some of the goons involved in the crime.

 

Narrating the attack, another person said the attack was sudden, ferocious and clinical. Being panicked women were screaming and children were crying while the wounded persons were squirming in pain. 

 

Goons continued creating havoc for a longtime till Police reached the spot. Police led by Officer in Charge of Bishalgarh along Central Forces rushed to the spot. However, no one could be arrested as goons fled away from the area before Police had arrived.

 

Fire Service Personnel also reached there and took the injured persons to Hospital. 

 

Notably,  a similar incident, about 80 houses were attacked with same ferocity in the Aralia area on March 2 last. The victims had to spend the night in the jungle. Many families left their homes and took refuge in protected areas. On Saturday again, evil forces conspired and created unrest and widespread tension.
